Red para la investigación y el desarrollo de genealogías alternativas, perspectivas, narrativas y formas de conocer y preservar el patrimonio.

Colección de colecciones es un programa que aspira a la construcción de una red de colecciones ubicadas en diferentes ciudades de Sudamérica, conectadas a través de medios digitales. Este proyecto, cuyos fundamentos metodológicos se basan en la historia del arte, los estudios visuales y curatoriales, tiene como objetivo desarrollar nuevas y más amplias vías para facilitar y promover el acceso al patrimonio de las colecciones públicas de arte de América del Sur, facilitando así las oportunidades de intercambios locales e interregionales a largo plazo. Además, se nutre de la necesidad de actuar y promover ideas creativas para hacer frente a los desafíos impuestos por este escenario pandémico que ha potenciado los problemas estructurales que durante mucho tiempo han sido causa de restricción al acceso a las colecciones y archivos que necesitan los investigadores - especialmente en América del Sur - para sus investigaciones.

En los últimos años se ha hecho evidente que el poder y la vitalidad de la disciplina artística se vieron reforzados por los intercambios y las conexiones posibles gracias a los nuevos medios disponibles. Además, la hipótesis de pensar con/sobre/entre imágenes, al que aspira nuestra propuesta, promueve la comprensión de las colecciones de arte como un desafío para el desarrollo de una historia del arte que explore las configuraciones imaginarias y visuales y sus múltiples dimensiones socio-histórico-culturales. 

MUNTREF - Museo de la Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero - y los miembros de la red, MAC-USP - Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Universidad de São Paulo - and MASM - Museo de Arte de San Marcos Lima -, presentamos este programa para comenzar a sentar las bases sobre las que se fundamentará y llevará a cabo: un seminario que permitirá a las instituciones asociadas en la red, expertos e investigadores formados y en formación, discutir el estado de nuestras colecciones, el alcance de nuestras colaboraciones presentes y futuras, y nuevos temas que favorezcan la consolidación de una colaboración a través de una plataforma común de curadores. 

El énfasis puesto en las colecciones de arte moderno y contemporáneo (es decir, de los siglos XIX y XX) responde a diferentes razones, tanto de orden práctico como historiográfico. Por un lado, en los países sudamericanos parece ser un hecho que esas son las colecciones disponibles en la mayoría de las instituciones involucradas. Además, la mayoría de las nuevas generaciones de investigadores tienden a centrarse en este periodo, ya sea por la mencionada accesibilidad o por el hecho de que, en muchos casos, se conceden becas a los interesados en estos campos. Por otro lado, los ámbitos académicos locales se ven en la necesidad de poner en cuestión las miradas canónicas con las que se han analizado las colecciones locales, una tradición que parecería desembocar en narrativas estériles que infravaloran su singularidad o especificidad. Por ello es necesario entrelazar las colecciones artísticas con los archivos, los investigadores senior y junior y los campos académicos más allá de las fronteras dentro de América del Sur.

Network for the research and development of alternative genealogies, perspectives, narratives and ways to know and preserve patrimony.

This is a project that aims at the development of a network of collections located in different cities of South América, that will be connected and intertwined through digital means. This project, whose foundations rely on the methodologies of art history as well as visual and curatorial studies, has the aim at developing new and wider paths to facilitate and promote access to the patrimony of South American public art collections, thereby enhancing the opportunities for long-run local and interregional exchanges. In addition, this project is informed by the necessity to take action and promote creative ideas to cope with the challenges imposed by this pandemic scenario that has enhanced the structural problems that have long been the cause of restricting access to collections and archives needed by scholars - especially in South America - for their research.

In the latest years it is becoming evident that the power and vitality of the artistic discipline has been strengthened by the exchanges and connections that can be explored and developed thanks to new means available. Furthermore, the hypothesis of thinking with / about / between images that inspires our work, promotes the understanding of art collections as a challenge for the development of an art history that explores imaginary and visual configurations and their multiple socio-historical-cultural dimensions. Inspired by this line of thought, UNTREF is embedded by the proposal of memory studies that focus on archives and collection with the aim at providing a collaborative effort in the strengthening of cultural patrimonies as well as taking actions that would make them more accessible not only to the local communities but also to a wider audience.

MUNTREF - Museo de la Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero - with MAC-USP - Museu de Arte Contemporânea Universidade de São Paulo - and MASM - Museo de Arte de San Marcos Lima -, partners in this this network, are presenting this program to start creating the foundations on which this project will be based and carried out: a seminar that will function as a starting point that will allow us, together with the partner institutions, experts and senior and junior researchers, to discuss the state of matters of our collections, the extent of our present and future collaborations, and the proposal of new questions that will favor the constitution of the network that will carry out our final collaborative goal of a common curatorial platform. 

The emphasis put on collections of modern and contemporary (i.e. XIX & XX century) art responds to different reasons both in regards with practical matters and historiographic ones. On the one hand, in South American countries it seems to be a fact that those are the available collections in most of the institutions involved. On top of that, it may be added that most of the new generations of researchers have a tendency to focus on this time period whether because of the mentioned accessibility or the fact that, in many cases, grants are provided to those who are interested in these fields. On the other hand, local academic fields are being besought by the necessity to put into question the canonical lenses with which local collections have been analysed, a tradition which seemed to result into barren narratives that underestimate their singularity or specificity. Owing to that, the need to intertwine artistic collections with archives, senior and junior researchers and academic fields across borders within Latin America.
